DCU Research making an impact
DCU is building a strong reputation as Ireland’s University of Enterprise, which is supported by its close collaboration with industry in research and in the way DCU fosters skill-sets in students that can adapt to and answer 21st century questions. Invent is DCU's Innovation and Enterprise Centre, based on the DCU Glasnevin campus. By working closely with DCU researchers and industry, Invent supports and encourages the translation of innovative research, inspired where possible by our industrial partners, into new or enhanced products and services. Invent has been helping entrepreneurs and DCU researchers to start new businesses since 2001. The purpose built Invent Centre has 2,800 square metres of incubation space for technology based start-up companies, offering a range of early stage and business support services to aspiring entrepreneurs and client companies, whether DCU staff or from the wider community.
The Invent team works closely with DCU's Research Support, Science Foundation Ireland and Enterprise Ireland to promote successful commercialisation of DCU research and to encourage and establish R&D links with industry.
In keeping with DCU’s positioning as Ireland's University of Enterprise, Invent strives to identify innovations with commercial potential by engaging early on with industrial companies. Identifying and protecting intellectual property created at DCU, or in partnership with client companies, is an important part of their remit. Invent supports the creation of new intellectual property, whether through patents, copyright or industrial designs, enabling business partners to improve profitability, to enter new markets and to gain competitive advantage. Invent leverages extensive links with industry to help forge business and research partnerships and to market DCU's commercialisation opportunities and research capabilities both nationally and internationally.
