 DCU Careers Service provides you with up-to-date information and advice on a range of options open to you and we are here to assist you with your future career plans. I realize that you are all very busy with final year projects and exams approaching. I would encourage you to make some time available in your very hectic schedule to think about your future career plans. JOB HUNTING
5 Things to do this week:
- Register on Gradireland to receive updates about jobs AND read information booklet relevant to your area
- Check vacancies advertised on the Vacancy Section of the Careers Service Website
- Prepare a brilliant CV based on the CV Section of the Careers Service Website
- Realize your Skills & Practice Psychometric Tests on the Psychometric Tests Section of the Careers Service Website
- Succeed at Interview (information available from the Interview Section of the Careers Service Website
POSTGRADUATE STUDY
If you are thinking about doing further study at this point, here are a few
Top Tips:
- Identify what you enjoy most and ensure that you choose the right postgraduate course.
- Investigate the modules, duration of programme, expectations etc.
- Try to talk to current students on similar programmes and get a realistic experience of what it is like.
- Identify employment prospects from the course.
- Have a chat with the course co-ordinator who can provide some expert advice on the programme.
There are a few different options open to you:
- Research In-depth study/research of a particular area, towards a two year Masters Degree (MBS, MSc) or three years Doctorate (PhD).

Taught Masters Programmes
These usually include a thesis or major project towards the end and the normal duration of the programme is between 12-18 months.
Diploma or Cert Courses e.g. Graduate Diploma in Business
These programmes normally last for one academic year and can provide excellent opportunities to top-up your skills in an existing or new area of knowledge.

i-flex solutions coming to DCU on Monday 14th April 2008

i-flex solutions will be on campus to meet with final year Computer/IT students on Monday 14th April. They will have an Exhibition Stand in ‘The Street’ in the Henry Grattan Building from 10am – 11am and will also be giving a presentation in Room CA124 (above Registry) from 11am – 12pm. Greek Scholarships |

The Embassy of Greece has announced that the scholarships for studies at the faculties of Theology at the Universities of Athens and Thessalonica for the academic year 2008/2009 are now open for application. These scholarships are open to undergraduate and postgraduate students who wish to pursue studies or research in Theology. Application forms are available from the International Section, Department of Education and Science, Training College Building, Marlborough Street, Dublin 1. Further details can be obtained from the Embassy of Greece, 1 Upper Pembroke Street, Dublin 2, Tel: 01 676 7254. Completed application forms (plus enclosures) must be returned to the Greek Embassy in Dublin not later than 1st June 2008.

Their Camp Counsellor programme is a great way to make friends from all over the world, learn about American culture, and work in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. They pay for flights, VISA, SEVIS, & Health Insurance. The camp provides free food and
board, and pays a stipend of $500. They are looking for students who are over 19 years of age, enjoy working with children, and are available to leave for the States his June for approx. 9 weeks. Alcohol Education and Research Council – Studentship Scheme 2008 |

The Council is offering a limited number of Studentships on a competitive basis to students who are working in the alcohol field and wish to acquire appropriate academic or professional qualifications by following a Taught Course. The Council will pay the course fees for the successful applicants. Applicants must be ordinarily resident in the UK and intend to commence their studies at a UK institution in the 2008/09 academic year. St. Pat’s College – Graduate Diploma in Education 2008/09 Intake |

This is an 18 months full time course, expected to commence in February 2009 enabling third level graduates to qualify as primary teachers. The course content: includes study in the foundation education disciplines of history, psychology, philosophy and sociology. Classroom management, teaching skills and the primary school curriculum are part of the programme, as these are substantial periods of practical teaching in schools. Courses in Irish and Religious Studies are also included. Students must attend a three-week course in the Gaeltacht as part of their course.
