The Washington Ireland Program for Service and Leadership (WIP) is preparing the next generation of leaders for Ireland and Northern Ireland. In Washington, participants gain exposure to the U.S. political system as well as an immersion in American culture by living with local host families. Through an intense eight week schedule, WIP interns are challenged to work as a team and to grow as active citizens. Students are placed in offices representing government, business, non-profit and media organizations. At the end of their internship, participants go home with enhanced professional and interpersonal skills as well as a new confidence in their own leadership abilities. More than 350 young adults have graduated from the program with many moving into important careers in politics, business, media and education. As they move into leadership roles, they retain their connection with the program and continue to give back to their local communities through an active alumni association.
