The Department of Foreign Affairs - Internships in its Conflict Resolution Unit |

The Department of Foreign Affairs is inviting applications for internships in its Conflict Resolution Unit and I would be grateful if you could bring this notice to the attention of your students and alumni.
As set out in the Programme for Government, the Government is committed to developing Irish engagement in international conflict resolution as an important new dimension of Irish foreign policy. The internship will be for a maximum duration of 11 months, commencing in August/September 2009. The internship is designed to provide the individual selected with the opportunity to gain practical experience in policy development and in the work of the Conflict Resolution Unit.
Qualifications/Experience:
* A first or second class honours degree in International Relations, History, Politics or another relevant discipline is required
* A strong interest in conflict resolution is desirable, as demonstrated by previous work experience in this area, specialized studies or academic training
* A postgraduate degree with a focus on conflict resolution and/or peace and security studies is desirable
* High level of oral and written communication skills are essential
* Good interpersonal, administrative and organizational skills
* Flexibility and capability to work independently and as a member of a team

We are currently offering a 12 month Internship for an enthusiastic and recently
graduated 3rd Level Student to join our Applications Development Team based in
City West Dublin.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, development and
implementation of ASP.Net components and controls to integrate with and extend
the existing application.
This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic self-starter with the right attitude
and capability to have a significant input into the development direction of a market
leading technology platform.
The ideal candidate will have some previous commercial or practical experience in
the development of public facing web applications with at least 6 months proven
experience in ASP.Net and C#.
Experience:
* ASP.Net and C#
* ADO.Net
* MS SQL and Transact-SQL
* XML \ AJAX
* HTML \ Javascript \ CSS and associated technologies
* Source Control (Subversion \ SourceSafe etc.)
The ideal candidate will also be familiar with:
* Working within a Windows Server Environment
* TCP/IP Network Infrastructure
* OO Design Principles & Patterns and UML
* Requirements gathering processes and documentation
Other Requirements:
* Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
* An ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team
