10th World Down Syndrome Congress |

Down Syndrome Ireland will host the 10th World Down Syndrome Congress between the 19th - 22nd August 2009 in the Helix , DCU Campus, on Collins Avenue.
To support the smooth running of the event, Down Syndrome Ireland are seeking approx. 30 volunteers to assist with operations. They are flexible in matching both time and skills to suit the volunteers’ availability and more to make the experience as valued and rewarding as possible.

PhD Programme in Bioinformatics and Computational Biomedicine |

Applications are invited from EU candidates for PhD positions under the graduate education programme (GREP) of the Irish Research Council for Science, Engineering and Technology (IRCSET). Most studentships commence 1st Oct 2009. Late applications from EU candidates continue to be accepted.
The aim of this PhD programme is to give students a strong interdisciplinary training, with both numerate (e.g. mathematics, statistics) and biological (e.g. experimental laboratory work) research experience, and joint supervision from different disciplines.

Sandwich Student Placements |

Applications for the GES centrally-run sandwich student placement scheme for 2010/11 is open Friday 9 October. The placements are aimed at economics students who are seriously considering a career in the Government Economic Service after graduation. The placements start in summer 2010 and last for approximately one year. Salaries are in the region of £17k-22k, although this varies from Department to Department. The list of participating Departments will be published in mid-late September.
Although applications will not be accepted until October, the application form, as well as example numeracy tests can be found on our website. This means that you can prepare your application and practice for the numeracy test, over the summer.

PhD position commencing in Autumn 2009 at the University of Limerick |

MACSI within the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Limerick is pleased to announce the PhD position commencing in Autumn 2009 at the University of Limerick.
Applications are invited for a number of postgraduate PhD positions in MACSI at the University of Limerick. Candidates should hold an honours degree (1 or 2.1) in Applied Mathematics/Mathematics/Engineering/Physics or a related numerate discipline. Research areas cover a broad range of topics in applied mathematics.
Funding covers University fees and the position carries a stipend of €18,000 (tax free). Appointments commencing in Autumn 2009 are highly desirable. To apply, candidates should submit a detailed CV, transcripts of undergraduate grades, motivation letter and the names and addresses of two referees for letters of recommendation to macsi@ul.ie.
