Launch of New Fellowship at UCD Michael Smurfit Business School |

UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School, in partnership with Bord Bia, is offering an innovative new programme to 25 of Ireland’s sharpest minds; the Bord Bia Marketing Fellowship.
This intensive 12-month action learning programme gives successful candidates the combined opportunity to gain hands-on experience working with some of Ireland’s most respected food companies and to also gain a postgraduate qualification. Participants’ time will be split between working in foreign locations, supported by Bord Bia, and studying for a Graduate Diploma in International Marketing Practice at UCD Smurfit School.
This is a fully-funded programme, including all fees, and participants will receive a bursary to the value of €17,500 (plus a rental allowance).
Applications are welcome from all graduates with a minimum of 2 years work experience. Some placements will require fluency in a second language (French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, Italian, Russian or Chinese).
The closing date for receipt of applications is Monday 24th August at 09.00.

Defence Forces Careers - Officer Cadets |

Officers are the Managers, Decision makers, and Leaders of the Defence Forces. Cadets or Trainee Officers engage in 15 months training in the Military College covering many fields of study before taking up an operational appointment in the Permanent Defence Force.
Have you got:
- The ability to plan, prioritise and organise people and other resources.
- The ability to carefully analyse problems, in order to generate appropriate solutions.
- The aptitude for absorbing information and be able to identify relevant information.
- Clear, concise and effective communication skills.
- The ability and motivation to coordinate and to delegate to others.
Application forms will only be accepted online and will be available from 2009 August 09 to midnight on 21 August 2009. Candidates who completed the Leaving Certificate in 2009 are requested to await their Leaving Certificate results prior to applying to determine if they meet the minimum education requirements.

JPA Brenson Lawlor, based in Donnybrook, Dublin 4, is a top twenty firm of Chartered Accountants and Business Advisors. Employing over fifty staff, they specialise in the provision of accounting, auditing, taxation and business advisory services to medium and large clients from a wide range of business sectors.
On an annual basis and in association with the Institute of Chartered Accountants, they recruit a number of Trainee Accountants each year. As a medium sized practice, they are able to offer all Trainees a broad based training with significant exposure to all facets of an accountants work leading to competence in all of these areas.
Trainees will be rewarded with a remuneration package to include a salary, all registration, course and examination fees and generous study leave allowance. Ideally, candidates will have an accounting commerce or business degree with exemptions from some or all of the CAP I or CAP II exams.

H.Dip in Television Production Programme |

The H.Dip in Television Production which has been developed by Waterford Institute of Technology and Nemeton Television in partnership with Údarás na Gaeltachta, aims to produce graduates with the requisite skills and abilities to work at the cutting edge in production and in the television industry. The course will offer students the opportunity to specialise in the areas of directing and editing for television, the two crucial areas where creative, technical, visual and aural talents are combined in the
production process. The course will be taught through the Irish language and therefore will also develop the linguistic abilities of students by giving them the opportunity to work and study in an Irish-speaking environment.
Applicants must hold an NQAI Level 7 qualification or higher. Students must
have a level of competency in spoken Irish. Applications will be made directly to WIT and selected applicants will be called for interview. Applicants without the above minimum requirements but with relevant industrial experience and language competency will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Otherwise suitably qualified applicants may be required to take a programme to improve competency in Irish.

The role involves:
• Developing, customizing and configuring software for the Sentenial customer base. This will include the following:
• Identifying project requirements.
• Documenting and communicating such requirements.
• Software specification and software design.
• Software development, software customisation and software configuration.
• Software unit testing and software system testing of all deliverables.
• Software delivery and software installation.
• Working closely with the engineering team in all stages of the SDLC .
• Working closely with Customer Service Representatives and System Administrators to ensure high availability of production systems.
• Research and development on new technologies and product development.
• Working closely with internal teams to solve business challenges.
• Providing support to the development teams as and when required.
Candidate Requirements:
• Candidates should have a 2.1 or higher in a Computer Science or an IT related
discipline.
• Excellent verbal communication, written communication, interpersonal and
presentation skills.
• An ability to prioritise own workload and work to strict deadlines.
• Flexibility and adaptability in the approach to customer and business needs.
• Excellent customer facing skills.
Preferred Technical Experience & Skills:
• Java 1.5, XML; Struts, MVC, JSP; EJB, Hibernate, Spring, Web Services; UML; JUnit, ANT, Maven; Eclipse IDE; JBoss, Tomcat, Websphere; UNIX/LINUX; Oracle, Pl/SQL knowledge a distinct advantage.
Desirable:
• Sandwich Year experience.
• Experience/ knowledge of Financial /Payment Applications is an advantage, as is knowledge of the financial services industry.

IRCSET Postdoctoral Fellowships for 2010 |

IRCSET is pleased to pre-announce details of the Call for Postdoctoral Fellowships in 2010. This year, the call will open slightly earlier than usual.
The Call is provisionally scheduled to open in the first week of October 2009 and close for applicants six weeks later in mid-November 2009. The closing date for mentors, referees and institutional endorsement will be one week after the applicant closing date. The exact opening and closing dates will be announced in the coming weeks. The results will be announced in April 2010.

They are particularly interested in suitable applicants for the INSPIRE IRCSET-Marie Curie International Mobility Fellowships. This scheme is open to researchers currently based in the Republic of Ireland who can have up to 5 years experience post PhD or equivalent. Career breaks such as maternity, parental or caring leave of up to 5 years duration are not taken into account when calculating the number of years of experience, so researchers who received a PhD or equivalent up to 10 years ago may be eligible to apply. The financial package for INSPIRE is based on the Marie Curie regime, hence it is extremely attractive, particularly as it contains extra financial support for those with family commitments.
