Edition week: 13-Apr-10

 This Week's Editorial

  Dear Students

Today the focus is twofold:

1. IDA web site - www.ida.ie

2. LINKEDIN – Professional networking site - www.linkedin.com

1. The IDA Website is a fantastic resource not only for those wishing to invest in Ireland but also for all students and graduates researching emerging employment opportunities. Familiarise yourself with the site today and review it on a weekly basis from here on. Look specifically at the breaking news items. The following headline stories appeared in March 2010 :-
• Dell to hire 100 at Dublin and Limerick
• Up to 30 new jobs for Citrix in Ireland
• IBM established Smarter Cities Technology Centre in Ireland
• LINKEDIN new international headquarters in Dublin (see below)

The company search facility is one of the best available, identifying overseas companies in Ireland by sector and by location in Ireland. This is a very valuable resource. When you call up a news story, you will access the press release section as well as publications, announcements, featured news, events and links, all of which may be very useful to you as you research your employment options.

2. LINKEDIN is an Internet company focused on connecting the world’s professionals to enable them to be more productive and successful. If you do not already have a presence on this site, why not join NOW. The company is privately held and has a diversified business model with revenues driven from user subscriptions, advertising sales and software licensing. The LinkedIn web site was launched in 2003 and is the largest professional networking site in the world with more than 60 million members representing 200 countries and executives from every FTSE 100 company. The company’s worldwide corporate headquarters is in Mountain View, California, but recently in March 2010, IDA Ireland, welcomed the announcement that LINKEDIN will shortly open the new international headquarters in Dublin in the near future. LinkedIn currently has members across 150 industries and from 200 countries.

You may also know that LINKEDIN will have several vacancies for graduates and experienced hires interested in marketing, sales, finance and customer service. Details of the vacancies are found on the Linkedin website- www.linkedin.com/home?trk=hb_home Search under jobs and Ireland as well as under Careers. You should also be aware of the Jobs directory where you can browse by function, industry, region.

Till next week, best wishes from
Muireann and the Careers Team
