Edition week: 27-Apr-10

 Dear Students,

This weeks focus is on a number of WEBSITES which will help you seek employment in Europe and further afield in an international environment.

1. www.otheroptions.ie
This is a unique Irish search engine to help Irish graduates find employment overseas. Currently there are around 2000 new jobs listed each day on this search engine. Presently, the site is being updated to enable more organisations abroad to be part of it. This means that Irish graduates will be able to search simultaneously, through thousands of webboards, Recruitment Agencies and organisations internationally who are interested in recruiting Irish graduates and easily locate relevant job vacancies through this new search engine.

During the Month of May this site will be hosting an Online Expo for around 50 International organisations who will be recruiting Irish graduates. The companies and organisations will be interviewing candidates through the website via chatrooms. Other online expos will follow during the following months.

This is an excellent website to put you on track in the race for employment abroad. In addition to the job search facility, the site also hosts a section on starting your own business as well as education and forum to help you ‘network’.

2. www.eurograduate.com
This site will give you access to a careers and education data bases. The Careers Database features thousands of Graduate Opportunities across Europe. You can search by any combination of industry, type of occupation, degree/diploma qualification or country of employment. In addition the Links section is very good as is the facility to register for the free monthly e-newsletter.

You can also download a soft copy of the published version of EUROGRADUATE, the European Graduate Career Guide 2010, which is distributed in hard copy and available for you to pick up in the DCU Careers Service Office CG28.

3. www.europa.eu/epso/index_en.htm
This is the official web site of the European Union Institutions and will give you full details of the range of job opportunities within the EU institutions, including, details of the positions and closing dates as well as regular bulletins, information on the application and recruitment process, details of the skills and competencies required and sample tests for you to try out. New selection procedures have been developed which are in use from March 2010.

4. http://ec.europa.eu/eures/
EURES provides information, advice and recruitment/placement (job-matching) services for the benefit of workers and employers as well as any citizen wishing to benefit from the principle of the free movement of persons.EURES is much more than the Job Mobility Portal. EURES has a human network of more than 700 EURES advisers that are in daily contact with jobseeker and employers across Europe. In Ireland, the Euro advisers are available through FAS. In European cross-border regions, EURES has an important role to play in providing information about and helping to solve all sorts of problems related to cross-border commuting that workers and employers may experience. Set up in 1993, EURES is a co-operation network between the European Commission and the Public Employment Services of the EEA Member States (The EU countries plus Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein) and other partner organisations. Switzerland also takes part in EURES co-operation. The joint resources of the EURES member and partner organisations provide a solid basis for the EURES network to offer high quality services for both workers and employers.

Hope you find these sites useful. Let the Careers Service know how you get on. Keep in touch by e-mail to careers@dcu.ie
