• Recent adverts by prospective employers, show a preference for third level education, experience and languages
• The report identifies the following, as areas of skills shortages-
o ICT including senior software developers, network engineers and project managers and business analysts
o Engineering- including product development in pharmaceuticals, mechanical and validation
o Healthcare mainly for doctors, specialist nurses, clinical psychologists
o Sales- multilingual telesales, marketing, technical sales and customer care
o Transport- international supply chain managers
o Science- medical related scientists
o Finance-including risk, quants, and regulatory experts
• Reference was made to the following recent Initiatives to assist the unemployed-
o Springboard - which provides opportunities for people who are currently unemployed to gain skills in areas of current and future job opportunities. See the following link for DCU www.dcu.ie/springboard/index.shtml
