Government Economic Service (GES) Placements 2012-2013
The Government Economic Service (GES) will begin accepting applications for the centrally run sandwich student placement scheme for 2012-13 on Monday 10 October. The placements are aimed at economics students who are seriously considering a career in the Government Economic Service after graduation. The list of participating Departments and job descriptions will be published in mid-late September.
The opening date for applications is Monday 10 October, and the latest closing date for receipt of applications is Friday 14 October. The scheme will close before the latest closing date when a sufficient number of applications have been received, and this will be notified on the GES website. It is therefore in the student's interest to submit their application as soon as possible after the opening date. Applications submitted after the scheme has closed will not be accepted. Applicants not studying for a recognised sandwich degree course must have permission from their university to undertake a year placement. Tutor signatures will no longer be required at the initial application stage - this is to speed up the process. Instead, students will be asked to provide a reference from their university economics tutor, confirming their suitability, at the invite to interview stage
To be eligible, applicants must be
• A UK national, Commonwealth citizen, or a member of the European Economic Area (EEA), and
• Studying for a degree in economics or, if it is a joint degree, economics must comprise at least 50% of the total course, or doing a Masters degree in economics. Due to the nature of the work, the placements are not open to first year undergraduates
Please visit our website at www.civilservice.gov.uk/ges for full details, eligibility requirements, the application form, and profiles of some of our previous sandwich students.
If you require any additional information which is not on our website, please contact ges.int@hmtreasury.gsi.gov.uk

Gradpool |
 |
Gradpool.ie is Ireland's first and only online student and graduate careers fair. The
site uses algorithms to match students to employers based on criteria which are
important to them such as Benefits, Employer Values and Office Perks and is
completely free to use.
All types of opportunities from Internships to Graduate programmes are profiled on
the site. Many of Ireland's top graduate recruiters such as KPMG, PwC, Matheson
Ormsby Prentice, Intel, Dell, Diageo and Microsoft are using the site to showcase
their graduate opportunities to students and graduates.
Gradpool.ie is operated by two Dublin graduates, Dave Egan and Andy McGreal, who
wanted to make job hunting easier for graduates, particularly during recessionary
times. “We wanted to make the process of researching careers easier for students,
so rather than let the student spend hours comparing and contrasting companies
online, we contacted the companies, collected the information we knew the students
would be interested in and built an interactive tool which showcased that information
in a user-friendly way,” said Dave, who graduated from DCU in 2007 with a degree in
Business Studies.
"This is an exciting new Irish business, and I am delighted to see innovative people
creating solutions like this to help job seekers during these difficult times,” said
Minister for Enterprise, Jobs and Innovation Richard Bruton at the launch ofwww.gradpool.ie
