 L'Oreal-UNESCO Fellowships 'For Women In Science' 2012

  L'Oreal-UNESCO Fellowships For Women In Science (FWIS) 2012 now has the
pleasure to announce the call for applications and invite all eligible female
postdoctoral researchers
L’Oréal UK and Ireland, the UK National Commission for UNESCO and the Irish
National Commission for UNESCO, with the support of the Royal Society have
partnered together to provide a dedicated UK and Ireland For Women In Science
Fellowship Programme for women scientists at postdoctoral level to enable and/or
facilitate promising scientific research in the life or physical sciences.
Four Fellowships will be awarded in 2012 to outstanding female postdoctoral
scientists to assist them with their research. The Fellowships, each worth £15,000
(equivalent € for candidates in Ireland), are tenable at any UK or Irish university or
research institute to support a 12-month period of research.
The fellowship money can be spent in any number of innovative ways to enable
women scientists to further their careers and facilitate world class research - such as
buying equipment, paying for childcare or funding travel costs to an overseas
conference

 Scholarships

  The French –speaking Community of Belgium are offering two scholarships to Irish students to enable them to improve their knowledge and practice of the French language and are particularly aimed at future teachers of French.

These courses are organised by the ’Université catholique de Louvain’ and takes place from 30 July to 17 August 2012. The total programme involves 65 hours of class work and several cultural activities. A certificate will be issued at the end of the programme. Registration fees, accommodation and food expenses will be covered by the WBI (Wallonie-Bruxelles International). Application forms are available from the Department of Education and Skills, International Section, Marlborough Street, Dublin 1.

Completed application forms must be returned to the above mentioned office no later than 5.30 p.m. on Wednesday, 21 March 2012. Late or incomplete application papers will not be considered.

For the information of all eligible candidates applying for the summer school scholarship at the Université catholique de Louvain-la-Neuve, 30 July – 17 August 2012.


• Please complete the official application form;
• A ‘Curriculum Vitae’ though not mentioned as a requirement in the application form should be included when submitting your application;
• Please include a ‘Statement of Intent’ ;
• Also references or copies of recent transcripts of exam results will help with the assessment of your application.

The ‘Selection Committee on Government Exchange Scholarships’ will convene to assess all eligible applications.  Free Masters in Applied Software Technology - Plus a Permanent Job

  Who should study this programme:

The ICT Ireland Skillnet in association with Dublin Institute of Technology has
launched a unique, one-year, full-time, intensive Masters degree in Applied Software
Technology which is free to students and offers full time employment with LM
Ericsson upon satisfactory completion. The programme is supported by Skillnets Ltd
through its Job Seekers Support Programme which is funded from the National
Training Fund through the Department of Education and Skills.

As well as the opportunity to gain an MSc (with additional technical training) students
will also obtain unrivalled work experience. On satisfactory completion participants
will take up a full-time and permanent position with LM Ericsson whose Product
Development Unit in Athlone specialises in the provision of Operations Support
Systems (OSS) to Telecom Operators using advanced Data and Event Management
and Visualization techniques.

Entry requirements:

Candidates should have a 2.1 Honours Degree in a relevant cognate discipline. This
includes (but is not limited to) Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electronic
Engineering, Data Networking etc. but qualified applicants from any discipline with
significant content in Maths, Problem Solving, Logic and Critical Thinking will receive
positive consideration. Each application will be considered on its individual merits.

Entry is confined to graduates who are Irish or EEA nationals, not currently in
employment. Candidates may be in receipt of unemployment assistance or not as
the case may be.

Aims of the programme:
The programme offers an integrated approach to delivering end to end software
development skills. From computing fundamentals and software design to
implementation and testing, the entire lifecycle of software development is covered.
It focuses on the practical problem-solving skills required for computer
programmers. Programme participants will also gain an integrated and critical
knowledge of the skills and particular technologies widely used in the industry today.

Duration and attendance: 1 year full-time programme
Career Prospects: Guaranteed full-time employment with LM Ericsson upon
successful completion of the programme.
