 The Guardian International Development Journalism Competition: now open

  The legacy of HIV, the contraception conundrum, malnutrition and the role of health
workers in reducing child mortality are just some of the many issues that affect the
developing world, yet are ones that aren't given enough publicity. The Guardian
International www.
guardian.co.uk/journalismcompetition?
j=7952&e=careers@dcu.ie&l=618_HTML&u=452214&mid=1059027&jb=1&CMP=

Development Journalism Competition aims to put these issues back on the news
agenda, by encouraging enthusiastic broad-minded writers to research and
investigate these issues so they get the attention and prominence they deserve.

This great opportunity could end with your students being published alongside some
of the best journalists in the UK. As well as potentially having their story published
online, 16 finalists will be taken on assignment to Africa or Asia to write a feature
that will then be published in a special Guardian supplement later this year.

All they need to do is write a 650-1000 word article on an aspect of global poverty covered by the themes www.guardian.co.uk/journalismcompetition/themes?intcmp=122&j=7952&e=careers@dcu.ie&l=618_HTML&u=452215&mid=1059027&jb=1&CMP= set and upload it using our online entry form on our website. The entry period closes on 3 May 2012.
Please encourage your students to enter this rewarding competition. All the information they need to enter is available at guardian.co.uk/journalismcompetition. You should have recently received some posters to put up in your department, but if not please email journalismcompetition@guardian.co.uk.
