Prospective research student should contact the director of APT or PI members of APT directly to discuss possible postgraduate research work within the group. Some options for funding the research work are listed below. Once an informal agreement on the research project detail has been reached and the funding for this work has been secured, the applicant should proceed to complete a formal Postgraduate Research Application Form online which can be found on the Registry's page: http://www.dcu.ie/research/graduate_research/how_to_apply.shtml

 

DCU Daniel O'Hare Research Scholarship

The Daniel O'Hare Research Scholarship Programme awards PhD research scholarships in the areas of Innovation, Sustainability, and Social Cohesion within the Faculties of Science & Health, Engineering & Computing, Business, and Humanities & Social Sciences. The Scholarship Programme is named in honour of DCU's founding President, Dr Daniel O'Hare, and successful candidates are known as O'Hare Scholars. National Research Funding Schemes

Irish Research Council for Science, Engineering and Technology – IRCSET provides awards for postgraduate research in Science, Engineering and Technology. www.ircset.ie

Science Foundation Ireland - SFI provides grants for researchers from around the world and based in Ireland, for outstanding research visitors, for conferences and symposia, and for collaboration with industry. www.sfi.ie

Enterprise Ireland – EI offer funding for science and engineers programmes focused on commercialisation activities. http://www.enterprise-ireland.com/en/

Health Research Board - HRB is the lead agency in Ireland supporting health research. www.hrb.ie

Sustainable Energy authority of Ireland – SEAI offer commercial feasibility grants for energy system and usage development initiatives. http://www.seai.ie/Grants/

Environmental Protection Agency – the EPA research programme supports R&D activities in a range of environment areas. http://www.epa.ie/researchandeducation/research/

Marine Institute – Coordinates, promotes and to assists in marine research and development. www.marine.ie/home/funding

Royal Irish Academy - The Academy awards approximately sixty research grants each year in both the humanities and the natural science. www.ria.ie/awards/index.html

Teagasc - Irish Agriculture and Food Development Agency provides 30 new postgraduate places each year with a grant of up to €21,000 per student. http://www.teagasc.ie/research/

International Funding Schemes

There are many international funding schemes which can support postgraduate research, a brief few of which area mentioned here: Welcome Thrust, FP7 People / Marie Curie, Industry-Academia Partnerships and Pathways (IAPP), Interreg, Erasmus Mundus, EU-Atlantis, European Research Council.
