DCU launches languages competition for Transition Year students

DCU launches languages competition for Transition Year students

“Expressing yourself in Covid times” is the theme of an exciting new languages competition targeting Transition Year (TY) students and launched by DCU’s School of Applied Language and Intercultural Studies (SALIS). This competition was made possible thanks to the support of Languages Connect.

It’s been a year like no other and as schools return to the classroom, DCU wants to give TY students the opportunity to express themselves in a creative way through the languages they love. Specifically, we are looking for competition entries using the languages taught at DCU which include: Chinese, French, German, Japanese, and Spanish.

Get creative!

TY students are invited to get creative and tell us how they have kept up their language skills during Covid through a Tik Tok story, video, instagram story or comic strip. They can also choose from a variety of topics here, with just one entry per student.

Dr Lucia Pintado Gutierrez from DCU's School of Applied Language and Intercultural Studies said:

"Speaking a foreign language with confidence is an important skill throughout all Irish secondary schools. It is also most important in modern societies where various languages and cultures live together."

Each student can submit an entry in one of three categories:

  • Best Tik Tok story
  • Best video/Instagram story
  • Best comic strip

Be in with a chance to win great prizes!

We have great prizes up for grabs including the chance for your students to win an ipad, vouchers and DCU hoodies. The closing date for entries is 30th April and prizes will be announced in May 2021.
