Student Orientation

Click here for orientation information for all new DCU students

We are delighted to welcome you to DCU this year and to congratulate you on the wonderful achievement of obtaining your place in the University.  This is a particularly exciting year in DCU’s history, as we work towards the full integration of DCU with two renowned teaching institutions, Mater Dei Institute and St Pat’s Drumcondra.  You are the first cohort of DCU students who will have access to facilities across two campuses – one based in Glasnevin and one in Drumcondra.  Make sure that you avail of all of the opportunities which the enlarged institution has to offer – two libraries, two sports facilities, two physical locations.

Settling In
The good news is that we have been working with First Year students for over 25 years at DCU – and we have helped thousands of students through this exciting yet challenging period.  As you start your journey through DCU, we cannot emphasise enough the importance of keeping on top of things and keeping an eye out for yourself.  Orientation Week is a vital week to attend so you can settle into university life and get to know your surroundings.  There will be plenty of talks, events and campus tours to help you get your bearings so make the most of this time.  We guarantee you will make plenty of new friends!

Orientation Week
During this week, you will be given the opportunity to collect your student card, meet academic, administrative and student support staff, learn what is expected of you, – and what you can expect in this new educational setting - get to know classmates and begin to feel at home on the DCU campuses.

The days you will spend with us this week are intensive however, and this is only the beginning of your 'learning period'. During the year, various student support units will offer workshops/presentations and walk-in clinics to assist you in this transition from second to third level education. These will be advertised on the Student Services Notice Boards - or you can drop into the Student Advice Centre in the Henry Grattan Building, DCU Glasnevin Campus, to pick up information during Orientation Week.

So, make sure to attend all of the sessions so that you don't miss anything that you may need at a later stage in the year, enjoy getting to know your new classmates and, importantly, don't hesitate to ask any member of staff or the 'student helpers' around campus, if you find yourself lost or confused at any time! If you have questions about Orientation, please phone us at: 01-7007165 or email: student.support@dcu.ie.
