Exploration of eating disorders and mental health in new novel

A new novel by a creative writing tutor at the DCU Centre for Talented Youth in Ireland (CTYI) explores the topic of eating disorders, an issue which affects up to 200,000 people in Ireland and accounts for over 14% of all adolescent admissions to psychiatric hospitals.

Nothing Tastes as Good by Claire Hennessy is a fascinating exploration of eating disorders and teenage mental health as told through the central characters of Annabel and Julia Jacobs. It is Hennessy’s first foray into the world of Young Adult fiction and is her twelfth publication overall, having produced her first novel at the age of 13. She is a former pupil of the CTYI.

The Dublin based writer and editor, currently teaches creative writing at the CTYI and regularly delivers writing workshops to schools, libraries and festivals around the country.

She is also a co-director and co-founder of the Big Smoke Writing Factory creative writing school in Dublin and is the Puffin Ireland editor at Penguin Random House.
