DCU Age-Friendy Initiative invited people on 6th October 2022 to join a webinar by Dr Eric Vogelsang on Social Lives and Alcohol Abuse among Older Adults in the USA

Dr Vogelsang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology and Director of the Center on Aging at California State University-San Bernardino.  Dr Vogelsang's current research mostly centres on older adults' health (and illness) behaviour.  More specifically, this work has focused on social participation, alcohol abuse, and vaccine uptake.  He has also written several articles on how older adults subjectively assess their health.  Dr Vogelsang's research has been published in The Gerontologist, Journal of Gerontology: Social Sciences, and the Journal of Health & Social Behavior.  


In 2018, Dr Vogelsang won an Emerging Scholar in Aging award from the International Sociological Association.  Dr Vogelsang's main teaching responsibilities include gerontology and medical sociology classes, such as Aging & the Life Course, Global Aging, and The Social Determinants of Health.  He is working on several projects with the Age-Friendly University Department over the course of his visit to DCU and will return to the USA in November.
