DCU student appointed face of London International Youth Science Forum

Lauren Fagan a student of the BSc in Analytical Science at Dublin City University has been selected as an ambassador to the London International Youth Science Forum (LIYSF) and ‘Face of LIYSF 2014’.  Founded in 1959, LIYSF is a two week residential event held at Imperial College London, attracting over 350 delegates from around the world.  The Forum aims to give a deeper understanding of science and includes lectures and demonstrations from leading scientists, visits to industrial sites, research centres, scientific institutions, laboratories and universities, in addition to an active social calendar of events.

Following competitive selection, Lauren attended LIYSF in 2013 representing the Faculty of Science and Health and DCU.  Her contributions at the 2013 Forum resulted in her being chosen as an ambassador to the 56th LIYSF, where Lauren will help participants to prepare for the 2014 Forum, the theme of which is ‘Eureka! - Breakthrough and Development in Science’.

When asked about her experience at LIYSF 2013, Lauren replies, “I can only describe LIYSF as life-changing and inspirational.  I believe it was a microcosm of the future as envisioned by pioneering, talented young scientists and it has encouraged me to try to embody greatness and have pride in my work.  My overall experience of the Forum was one filled with new knowledge, many new culturally and ethnically diverse friends and magical memories.”

The Faculty of Science and Health are delighted to celebrate Laurens achievements  and this year  are sending two more promising young scientists, Niall Flanagan, BSc in Applied Physics and Thomas McMahon, BSc in Science Education to attend the 2014 event which commences on 23rd July.
