DCU welcomes new link with Church of Ireland College of Education

DCU and the Church of Ireland College of Education (CICE) have signed an inter–institutional linkage agreement. Reflecting the growing partnership between the two institutions, this signing means that CICE becomes a college of the university and that DCU will become the sole accrediting body for all CICE’s undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes.

Professor Brian MacCraith, President of DCU, said,

'This is a significant development for both the Church of Ireland College of Education and DCU.  The strengthening of the links between our two institutions is an important milestone in the DCU Incorporation process and heralds an exciting new era of education for all the children of Ireland."

This is a significant development which takes place against the background of the incorporation of the Church of Ireland College of Education, Mater Dei Institute of Education and St. Patrick’s College Drumcondra into Dublin City University. The DCU Incorporation will lead to the establishment of a new internationally significant, research-intensive Institute of Education, which heralds a new era for education in Ireland. The Institute will engage with schools and the educational community across Ireland and beyond, and will be an authoritative source of influence on policy development.  In addition to the new Institute of Education, the Incorporation Programme will bring together the combined strengths of the four institutions within an enhanced and enlarged Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at DCU.

CICE and DCU look forward to deepening and strengthening the emerging synergies across their institutions. Reflecting their mutual respect and inter–institutional parity of esteem, CICE and DCU are delighted to announce a joint partnership in a key research project focusing on small Protestant primary schools in Ireland.
