General Information

There are many different ways in entering DCU. While candidates are primarily assessed on the basis of their second level examinations, other assessments are in place for mature students, students from socio-economic disadvantaged backgrounds, students with disabilities/specific learning difficulties and transfer students. The university is committed to welcoming students from countries worldwide.

Different application procedures are in place based on the categorisation of a candidate as being EU or Non-EU for admission purposes. The criteria as to how a candidate is designated as EU or Non-EU are outlined here .

In the case of both EU and Non-EU applications, all non-native speakers of English are required to produce evidence of their competence in the English language. The recognised examinations in of English Language Competency are outlined here .

In the case of both EU and Non-EU applications, candidates can indicate information pertaining to any disability/specific learning condition which can be taken in consideration as outlined here .

Application Procedures - Undergraduate Programmes

EU applications for full-time undergraduate programmes are broken down into several different categories

  • Candidates taking School Leaving or FETAC Level 5 examinations must apply through the Central Applications Office (CAO) by the 1st February or by the late application date of the 1st May. To apply through the CAO click here .
  • Candidates applying on the basis of socio-economic disadvantage attending a school included in the access programme must apply through the Central Applications Office (CAO) by the 1st February or by the late application date of the 1st May and also submit the "Supplementary Application Detail Form" to the access office of the institution linked to their school.
  • Candidates taking higher education studies at another institution who are seeking to transfer onto a programme of study at DCU must apply directly to DCU by the 1st July. To download a direct application form click here .
  • Candidates applying on the grounds of mature years must apply through the Central Applications Office (CAO) by the 1st February. The late application date of the 1st May does NOT apply in the case of candidates applying on mature years. To apply through the CAO click here .

EU applications for part-time undergraduate programmes must apply directly to DCU. There are different closing dates for each programme. These are indicated within the programme information:

Special Application Procedures - B.Sc. in Nursing (4 year programme)

All candidates applying for the B.Sc in Nursing (4 year programme) must apply through the Central Applications Office (CAO) regardless of their status as EU or Non-EU, or their eligibility to be considered as mature or transfer applicants. There are also separate CAO course codes for the purposes of assessing mature applicants (DC225/DC226/DC227). Mature applications must be made by the 1st February and are assessed by the Nursing Careers Centre of An Bord Altranais. All other applications must be made using the standard CAO codes (DC215/DC216/DC217) by the 1st February or by the late application date of the 1st May. Please click here
