Dr Caroline McMullan recognised at Emergency Planning Awards
The second annual Emergency Planning Awards ceremony, recognising those individuals and companies who have excelled within the field of emergency planning, was held in Glasgow recently. The glamorous event was staged at The Glasgow Science Centre and Imax Theatre.
Dr Caroline McMullan, Chair of the MSc in Emergency Management at DCU Business School, was awarded the Health Protection Agency Award for Emergency Planning Initiative of the Year. This award is presented to an individual with “a proven commitment to launching an initiative that is both educational and which supports the emergency planning message throughout the industry”.
Mathew Price, BBC World Affairs Correspondent, read the following citation before Dr Brian McCloskey, HPA, presented the award to Dr McMullan:
“Although there were many strong entries, one entry stood out for the judging panel. This entry showed commitment to embedding emergency management across a nation. Changing minds and attitudes is never easy, creating the conditions for change possibly harder. Training the leaders of the future is critically important for the ongoing development of emergency management”.
