DCU report estimates autism prevalence at 1%

To mark World Autism Awareness Day on Tuesday 2 April and the start of Autism Awareness Month, the Irish Autism Action (IAA) has published a preliminary report by a team of researchers from Dublin City University comprising joint principal investigators Professor Anthony Staines and Dr Mary Rose Sweeney. The report showed that the 50,000 people in Ireland are affected by autism. Andrew Boilson, also a member of the research team, has just completed his PhD thesis based on the study.

The next phase of the study will establish the life-long cost of care for someone with autism.
