DCU Professor Eugene Kennedy elected Secretary of the RIA

DCU Professor, Eugene Kennedy, has been elected Secretary of the Royal Irish Academy at the recent Stated General Meeting of the RIA.

The Royal Irish Academy is Ireland’s leading body of experts in the sciences and humanities. Founded in 1785 The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann is a publicly funded institution established for the promotion of Irish academic research.

Eugene Kennedy is Emeritus Professor of Physics and former Vice-President for Research at Dublin City University. He has published widely on short-wavelength light source development, plasma diagnostics and the interaction of ionizing photons with atomic/molecular ions. Coordinator of EU projects, he has also been an invited researcher at NIST (Wash. DC), DESY (Hamburg), SOLEIL (Paris) and ALS (UC Berkeley).

Former Director of the National Centre for Plasma Science and Technology, NDRC Director and Chair of the RPII Board, he has served on EU evaluation panels including the Fusion Programme Evaluation Board and currently serves on the Euratom Scientific and Technical Committee.
