IASI award

DCU Communication Studies graduate, Daráine Mulvihill has been selected by Channel 4 to anchor its coverage of the Paralympic Games in London following a search to uncover new, young presenting talent.

Daráine was hit with a life-threatening strain of meningitis and left with permanent disabilities at the age of 16. In recognition of her bravery and strength in overcoming the illness, she received an 'Irish Person of the Year' award and was appointed as a youth representative to the Council of State, advisory body to the President of Ireland.

After leaving school, Daráine undertook a BA in Communication Studies at Dublin City University and completed the postgraduate Cummarsáid Fheidhmeach at NUIG. Presenting roles in Telegael and RTÉs kids tv were followed by a move to London which involved training with BBC, ESPN and Sky Sports News. Describing the London Paralympics role as her ‘dream job’, Daráine is currently presenting the network’s ‘Road to London 2012’ series.

The Paralympics will be hosted in London from 29th August to 9th September 2012.
