‘The Irish Presidency’ – book launch

President Michael D Higgins last week hosted a reception at Áras an Uachtaráin to mark the publication of 'The Irish Presidency: Power, Ceremony and Politics' edited by Professor John Coakley from UCD and Dr Kevin Rafter from DCU.

The volume, which charts the political role of the Irish presidency since its inception in 1937, has a strong DCU connection with chapters written by its co-editor Kevin Rafter as well as Professor Robert Elgie, Professor Gary Murphy and Dr Eoin O'Malley.

Since its publication in late November the book has featured on RTE television and Newstalk radio as well as having an extract published by the Sunday Times.

In a foreword for the book President Higgins says, 'I commend the editors and contributors on a fine volume of essays. I have no doubt that it will be a valuable tool to inform readers and students about the genesis, history and contemporary nature of the Irish Presidency.?
