DCU students and teaching staff urged to do INDEx survey - and raise money for Barretstown

Dublin City University students and teaching staff are being urged to take part in a national survey – which will help shape the future of digital learning in DCU and all higher education institutions.

By taking the INDEx survey, staff and students will also be helping raise money for DCU’s charity partner Barretstown.

For every survey taken in DCU, the Quality Promotions Office (QPO) and the Students' Union will make a donation of €1 to Barretstown, up to a total of €2,000.

INDEx is Ireland’s first ever survey of the digital experiences, expectations and engagement.

The survey was launched in DCU last week, and will remain open to all DCU students (full-time and part-time across all programmes) and staff who teach until November 17th.

All students and teaching staff would have received an email with the necessary links – they are also at the bottom of this article.

The INDEx survey will enable DCU and other higher education instituations along with the National Forum to:

  • Understand more about students’ digital experiences and create opportunities for meaningful collaborative engagement
  • Explore the perspectives of those who teach on the institutional digital environment and use of technology for teaching, learning and assessment
  • Identify and highlight what makes a difference to both students and those who teach with respect to digital infrastructure, digital skills, digital tools and digital literacies
  • Gather current empirical evidence upon which strategic decisions about digital interventions and investments can be based, as part of the process of building digital capacity
  • Enable international benchmarking with other countries that have completed a similar survey (i.e. UK, Australia, New Zealand)

This survey will be further analysed at this university.

This analysis, including summary results, will be included as part of self-evaluation for a Digital Learning Thematic Quality review being conducted at DCU during 2019/20.

Further information on this survey is available here.

The Quality Promotions Office (QPO) will coordinate this survey on behalf of the University so please direct any queries to aisling.mckenna@dcu.ie or celine.heffernan@dcu.ie

In the spirit of partnership, the QPO and DCUSU will donate €1 for every survey response (up to a max of €2,000) with all proceeds going to our partner charity, Barretstown Children’s Charity.

The INDEx survey is co-ordinated by the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education in partnership with third level institutions around the country. For more information about the survey, please click here: https://www.teachingandlearning.ie/index/
