Academic biography

Barbara Flood is Full Professor of Accounting at Dublin City University. She completed a BA in Accounting and Finance at DCU, a Master of Accounting (MAcc) at UCD and her PhD at Loughborough University. She is a member of Chartered Accountants Ireland, having completed her professional training with KPMG. Her principal research explores students' learning approaches and learning experiences in higher education and in the professional accounting context. She has published in many peer-reviewed journals and is currently Joint Editor of Accounting Education. She is a member of the Audit Committee of the Dept of Justice,  she  completed two terms on the Public Interest Oversight Board of Deloitte Ireland  and she is on a number of external advisory groups.

Research interests

Accounting Education within higher education and the profession: students' learning experiences; conceptions of learning; learning approaches; perceptions of teaching and course quality; students' motivations, expectations and preparedness for further study; learner identity; professional identity construction; burnout and work engagement of accounting trainees.
