Academic biography

Máire Ní Láimhín is an Assistant Professor in the School of Language, Literacy and Early Childhood Education at the Institute of Education, Dublin City University. Máire is a lecturer of Teagasc na Gaeilge. Máire is a former primary school teacher interested in the teaching and learning of the Irish language. She worked in English-medium and Irish-medium schools in Ireland, Australia and Canada.

Máire is a registered doctoral student on the Doctor of  Education programme in the Institute of Education, Dublin City University. Her current doctoral research focuses on transfer of skills across languages in the context of the Primary Language Curriculum. Máire is interested in teacher language awareness, transfer of skills across languages, initial teacher education, and teacher professional learning and development.

Her work involves workshop delivery of the teaching of Irish on six modules across the Bachelor of Education and Professional Master of Education programmes in DCU. Her work also includes supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations. Máire contributes to the delivery of tutorials to support reflective practice to students on the Bachelor of Education programme.
