Have you got what it takes to be DCU's Star Baker?

DCU students and staff can help raise some dough with the DCU Barretstown Bake Off.

Teams and individuals can enter the competition which will be taking place in May on St Patrick’s campus and Glasnevin campus.

Entries will be assessed by a special judging panel on the day.

The event will take place on St Pat’s Campus on Wednesday, May 18th, and on the Glasnevin campus on Thursday, May 19th.

For anyone interested in entering their showstopper - please take note of the tips below
  • All bakers must register their participation beforehand - registration for the bake off will close the day before the competition. If you are entering the competition on St Pat’s campus, registration closes on Tuesday, May 17th. If you are entering on the Glasnevin campus, registration closes on Wednesday, May 18th.
  • Entries cost €5 for individuals, and €20 for teams.
  • Bakers can come up with their own theme for their entries - or keep it simple with taste alone
  • Entries can be savoury or sweet - they will be assessed by a special judging panel on the day.
  • Entries will be judged on both taste and appearance.
  • Bakers will prepare their entries at home, and bring them on campus.
  • The event will be open to bakers from 9.30am.
  • Each entry and baker/team will be photographed at the start of the event.
  • The event is open to the public from 10.30am, with Star Bakers announced at midday. Everyone is welcome to come along!

Event organiser Olivia McGinn said all bakers are welcome regardless of experience.

‘We know there are lots of secret star bakers in DCU - so we’re calling on them to show off their talents and get baking for Barretstown.

‘We think everyone has a showstopper in them - this event is fun, so all efforts are appreciated.

‘Bakers will make their entry at home and bring to DCU the following morning. The event will open at 10.30am for judging and photography.

‘DCU staff and students who haven’t entered are more than welcome to attend and show their support - and sample the efforts once the judging has taken place. Members of DCU Barretstown committee will also be there shaking some buckets to raise funds for Barretstown,’

The DCU Bake Off is the latest event from the DCU Barretstown Committee.
