Academic biography
Damien Dupré is an Assistant Professor of Business Research Methods at DCU Business School, where he leads teaching in business analytics, data visualisation, and quantitative research methods across undergraduate, masters, and doctoral programmes. He is a Fellow of Advance HE and holds a certified Posit teaching qualification in evidence-based data science pedagogy.
His research sits at the intersection of affective computing, sentiment analytics, and applied data science. He applies machine learning, natural language processing, and multivariate time series analysis to problems in financial markets, housing economics, and consumer behaviour. His most cited work, a benchmark comparison of commercial facial expression recognition systems published in PLOS ONE, has received over 180 citations and featured in international media coverage. He has published in journals including American Behavioral Scientist, Psychological Research, Sports Engineering, and Journal of Customer Behaviour, with several further papers currently under review. He holds a PhD in Social and Experimental Psychology from Université Grenoble-Alpes.
Damien has held research positions at Queen's University Belfast and at University College Dublin's Insight Centre for Data Analytics to bring an interdisciplinary and industry-connected perspective. He is an appointed Officer of Statistics for the Central Statistics Office (CSO) of Ireland and develops automated public data tools that disseminate data and statistics to wider audiences. He is Lead PI on a collaborative Erasmus+ application with European university partners and has been awarded the IPBS Research Scholar award.
At DCU, he led the school's transition to the open-source platforms, developed an extensive ecosystem of freely available interactive coding tutorials in R and Python, and designed the new undergraduate Business Analytics specialism. As Programme Chair for the BA in Global Business, he manages complex double-degree partnerships with five international universities. His students have consistently ranked in the top ten of the European EDHEC Student Dataviz Challenge, including first and second place in 2024. He serves on the DCU Business School International Committee and mentors colleagues and doctoral students in advanced quantitative methods.
