Project Summary
IBM's big Green Innovations are a portfolio of environmentally-focused initiatives that IBM has launched where IBM applies advanced materials science, physics, modeling tools, materials science, physics, and integration expertise to address emerging environmental management opportunities. CLARITY are a major partner in many of these world leader environmentally-focused initiatives that include energy management, distributed environmental monitoring and SmartBay.
IBM have an embedded researcher, Jer Hayes, who works collaboratively with IBM and CLARITY (under Robert McCarthy and CLARITY PI Prof. Dermot Diamond) on a number of projects. Within CLARITY Jer Hayes is undertaking work in the integration of in-situ sensor data with remote sensing data and examining how data should be managed and tagged to automate event detection. Thus far this has involved the monitoring of atmospheric NO2 and water quality (e.g., sea surface temperature) using remote sensing data sources and in-situ sources. This work also involves colloboration with MI-funded beaufort scholars/researchers.
SmartBay which is the next generation of advanced coastal and marine monitoring and management. IBM and CLARITY have worked together on two core projects which have grown from SmartBay are: 1.Integrating the cyber-physical environment – IBM developed an embedded sensor platform (in collaboration with Clarity) to measure phosphate levels. 2.Integrating environmental information through an interface with advanced visualisation capabilities – IBM developed a SmartBay Portal to integrated data from various environmental sources.
