Biography

Melinda Harlov-Csortán, PhD is an assistant college professor at Department of Religious-, Social Sciences and Romology in Apor Vilmos Catholic College in Vác, Hungary. Her research interests are heritage studies, religious sociology, cultural and social history of the 20th century, identity and representation. She studied (among many other subjects) art history, nationalism, history and cultural heritage management in both Hungarian and English-speaking educational institutions. Her PhD research topic was the establishment of UNESCO World Heritage Cultural sites in Hungary, as an international influence on the representation and memory of these sites. Among others, the current and former inhabitants’ (like the German-speaking minority, Jewish communities) memorization and heritagization through oral history testimonies or by public art examples were and are part of her research interest. Her comparative approach is ensured also by becoming a member of international research teams and attending both national and foreign scholarly programs. She has presented her research at over forty Hungarian and international conferences and published her findings at both types of scholarly publications too. Besides research and teaching, she has worked as project- and program management as well at diverse higher educational institutions and cultural organizations.
