Collaboration in Action
Collaboration in Action
To highlight just two examples of meaningful collaboration, through the Ireland India Institute DCU has an Agreed Programme of Research with IIT Madras as well as collaboration in the social sciences with an international network.
DCU and the Indian Institute of Technology Madras signed the first collaborative Memorandum of Understanding in September 2010. Now, as of June 2012, the MOU has been amended in order to facilitate a co-funded research collaboration strategy among both institutions.
Some examples of science and technology collaborative projects covered by this initiative include:
- Nanostructured thin films for field emission applications
- Arsenic removal from water using magnetic nano-particles
- All-optical processing with advanced modulation formats
- Laser modification of polymer materials for soft tissue applications
- Characterizing ultra-short pulses in "Far UV to Infra Red”
- Development of smart nano-materials for improving electrode performance in bio-fuel cells
- Development of low cost colour detection techniques
In the social sciences DCU is deepening its collaboration with an international network focused on EU-India relations coordinated out of the University of Warsaw and including Jawaharlal Nehru University, University of Hyderabad, University of Calcutta, Aalborg University, University of Heidelberg and University of Leiden among others. This network has organised a series of research workshops, each focused on some of the most challenging issues in EU India relations.
- The Rise of India and China: Domestic, Regional and Global Implications
- India as Emerging Power in International Relations – implications for the EU
- Contemporary Security Challenges in South Asia and the Indian Ocean
- The EU - India Free Trade Agreement negotiations
- The Indian Economy after the financial crisis
