"Along with the theory, much of the learning is practical and interactive, making it suitable for students with different ways of learning."

I spent my summers as a teenager attending the Centre for Talented Youth, Ireland at DCU and from then I had my heart set on doing science in DCU, specifically chemistry.

This course is for anyone with an interest in chemistry. Along with the theory, much of the learning is practical and interactive, making it suitable for students with different ways of learning. I would highly recommend it for anyone interested in a career in pharmaceuticals or lab research.

The best part is the lab work. It tests all the chemistry you’ve studied as well as your patience. It’s tough work but the time flies when you’re surrounded by your friends and encouraging staff members.

A supportive atmosphere for learning
The one thing that surprised me about college was how different it was to secondary school. There is such a positive atmosphere and no sense of competition. Your classmates and faculty staff are there to help you – all you have to do is ask. There’s no judgement of any kind, which is amazing.

Studying at DCU has given me a sense of commitment, professionalism and made me comfortable working in teams. After I graduate, I hope to go into pharmaceuticals or lab research. But they say the college course for your future job hasn’t been invented yet. So study something you’re genuinely interested in.
