My overall experience within the mental health nursing programme has been amazing. The different modules on offer allowed me to choose ones I would enjoy, and allowed me to explore mental health and understand it to a high standard so I can help people in need.

I choose this course as I have a huge interest in mental health. I have struggled with my own mental health as many others have and I would plead to people who want to take this course not to let that stop you.

Gaining practical experience
I’ve done many placements in mental health settings including care of the elderly and people with addiction issues, and in acute and long-term care as well as gaining some general and paediatric nursing experience. The course has also given me the chance to gain employment in nursing homes and hospitals during the summer months and part-time during college.

The course has reached beyond my expectations. I didn’t think I would enjoy it as much as I do. I took many modules that enabled me to learn different aspects of nursing such as sociology, research, sexual health, palliative care and ethics. We have all been able to take part in summer internships and attend various talks on mental health.

The quality of teaching made me love this course so much. Most of the lecturers were nurses themselves. They have loads of knowledge and understand both the practical and theoretical aspects of the course.
