Dublin City University and the University of Liverpool, with the James Madison Charitable Trust, are hosting a one-day workshop on Monday, 1st September 2025, in Dublin to explore federalism in Ireland. The event will look at how federal or devolved government systems – like those in Belgium, Italy, or Spain – could help ensure democratic stability, protect minority rights, and prevent political conflict in the case of Irish reunification.

Researchers are invited to submit papers examining different governance models and what they could mean for Ireland’s future. All research approaches are welcome.
