Associate Dean for Research: Prof Colm O'Gorman
Colm O'Gorman is Professor of Entrepreneurship and Associate Dean for Research at DCU Business School. Colm's research interests include measuring the level of entrepreneurial activity in Ireland. He is co-author of the annual Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) report for Ireland, which measures the extent and nature of entrepreneurship in Ireland.
Colm has explored the emergence of high-tech firms in the context of cluster dynamics, including a study of the software industry in Ireland in the 1990s (www.nesc.ie). Much of his research focuses on strategy in small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), with a particular focus on the strategic attributes of high growth firms. Specifically, Colm has studied the growth strategies of SMEs, the nature of managerial work in high growth SMEs, mission statements in SMEs, and internationalisation processes in INVs and in SMEs. He is co-author of 'Enterprise in Action', a text book on entrepreneurship. Colm has also co-authored teaching cases studies on entrepreneurship, including 'Abrakebabra: Growing Pains in a Fast-Food Restaurant Chain', which won the 2007 EECH case award for Entrepreneurship.
