HERC director Prof. Slowey has been appointed to the Royal Irish Academy’s Committee of Social Sciences and nominated to act as the committee’s vice-chairperson.

Founded by Royal Charter in 1785, the Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann is a publicly funded institution established for the promotion of academic research across the island of Ireland.

In 2014 the RIA established ten Multidisciplinary Committees to build public engagement and understanding of scholarly activities and to strengthen the contribution and influence of scholarly knowledge and research in public discussion and public policy. Members are drawn from universities, research institutions, government agencies, industry and other relevant bodies.
