Marina Carr's new play, Audrey or Sorrow, opens in Abbey Theatre

Marina Carr is a lecturer in the School of English at DCU, one of Ireland's leading playwrights.

A new play by Dublin City University School of English lecturer Marina Carr opens tomorrow (23 February 2024) in the Abbey Theatre.

Audrey or Sorrow brings audiences on a shape-shifting, time-bending deep dive into a world of family secrets, unimaginable loss, ghosts behaving badly and the endless pull of the sea. It will run in the Abbey until 30 March.

Directed by Caitríona McLaughlin, the play exemplifies Marina Carr’s work to date: storytelling that tunnels deeply into the complicated contours of family dynamics; pushing the boundaries of love, power and desire. It will be the first of two world premieres of work by the author, marking her 60th birthday and her third year as the Abbey Theatre’s Senior Associate Playwright.

Details of the play and content advice are available here.
