Tribute to Brian Friel

It is with great sadness that the DCU community has learned of the death of Irish literary giant, Brian Friel.

The university honoured Brian with an honorary degree in 1991 in recognition of his unique dramatic voice and his unparalleled contribution to the artistic landscape of the country.  As a member of Seanad Eireann, he championed the special position of arts and culture in Irish life.  His best-known and acclaimed works included Philadelphia, Here I Come!, Dancing at Lughnasa and Faith Healer.

We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends on their great loss.
