DCU PhD students launch Women Are Boring academic research site

Two DCU PhD students have recently launched Women Are Boring, a site which features research by women in all academic fields and disciplines from across the world.

Catherine Connolly and Grace McDermott are studying in the School of Law and Government and the School of Communications respectively. The research covers a wide variety of topics including women in ISIS, gender equality in Northern Ireland and Scotland's health inequalities. The research is not solely focused on women - the site also covers subjects like Brexit and the UN.

The site requests that each piece is roughly 1000-2000 words and is written in an informal style with little jargon, to make it accesible to a general audience. Contributions from any authors are welcome and the site allows you to read a short biography of the author and access their articles in one place.

Since launching in May, the site has received over 12,000 views from more than 94 countries. Such is the success of their site, Catherine and Grace have been featured in the August edition of the Irish women's magazine Stellar. The article appears in the culture section of the magazine, which is on shelves from today.

There's also a Facebook page and Twitter account for the site which share videos, pictures and posts relating to empowerment and research.
