Outstanding graduate research awards presented

Claire O'Connell and Denis Patterson were both recently awarded the DCU Faculty of Science and Health Outstanding Graduate Research Awards.

The Outstanding Graduate Research Award recognises graduate students of exceptional ability who have made an outstanding contribution to research in the Faculty of Science and Health.

Claire is currently pursuing a PhD with the School of Physical Sciences while Denis is completing his PhD in Applied Mathematics.

Both students completed their undergraduate courses at DCU with Claire obtaining a degree in Physics with Biomedical Sciences and Denis graduating with a degree in Actuarial Mathematics.

Claire, who is a past pupil of Loreto Secondary School Balbriggan, is currently engaged in research which is aiming to push the detection limit of cancer cells in blood.

Denis, a former pupil of Scoil Chonglais Baltinglass, is researching complex mathematical models and their application across applied and social sciences.
