Death of Dr Pearse Lyons RIP

It is with great sadness that we have learned of the death of DCU honorary alumnus, Dr Pearse Lyons.

Dr Lyons was founder and President of Alltech, a global industry leader in animal health and nutrition, crop sciences, brewing and distilling.   A lifetime passion for science saw him grow a globally significant business that employs 3500 around the world today, doing business across 128 countries.  He has made an immense contribution as a scientist, innovator, entrepreneur and, never forgetting his Irish roots, a champion of Irish-American business links.

In line with Dr. Lyon's constant openness to new ideas, he was a generous sponsor of research in Universities worldwide, including DCU.

Through its European Research Headquarters in Dunboyne, Alltech has established one of its prestigious International Strategic Research Alliances with the National Institute for Cellular Biotechnology (NICB) at DCU, and also sponsors Ph.D. students in DCU's Schools of Biotechnology and Chemical Sciences

Dr Lyons was conferred with an Honorary Doctorate by DCU in 2015 and was awarded the SFI St. Patrick’s Day Medal for Science in 2017.

We are very proud of our association with Dr Lyons and we extend our sympathies to his family and to colleagues at Alltech at this very sad time.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
