Science Open Day

The Faculty of Science and Health at DCU participates each year in Science Week Ireland and all Schools in the Faculty are actively involved in the events.
The main focus of the week will be our Science Open Day, which will be held on Wednesday 16 November 2005. This is a full day of interactive demonstrations, science tours with staff from the Faculty of Science and Health available to talk to students about programmes in the Science area.
The day is designed for Senior Cycle students with sessions run on a hourly basis from 10.00 am to 1.30 pm.
We will also be hosting two shows on Tuesday 15 November and two shows Thursday 17 November. The details of these are listed below:
For one week in the year during November, people of all ages are given the opportunity to explore and discover Science in a fun way. The theme for Science Week Ireland 2005 which runs nationally from 13 th to the 20 th November inclusive is “The Science behind Entertainment” focusing on the popular areas of leisure and entertainment such as music, movies and sport. Tuesday 15 th November 2005 : “Science Magic” with Sue McGrath.
Senior Cycle (4 th /5 th / 6 th Yrs )

Time: 11.00 am – 12.00 noon
Junior Cycle (1 st /2 nd /3 rd Yrs)
Venue: The Hub
Time: 2.30 pm – 3.30 pm
These shows relate the abstract world of science to everyday objects and events. Mini explosions and chemical reactions make this a fascinating show!
Thursday 17 th November 2005 : “Magic, Science or Mystery?” with Paul McCrory
Senior Cycle (4 th /5 th / 6 th Yrs )

Time: 11.00 am – 12.00 noon
Welcome to the mysterious world of the science magician where nothing is quite as it seems. Magic with a difference – where entertainment and education meet.
Thursday 17 th November 2005 : “A Question of Energy” with Paul McCrory
Junior Cycle (1 st /2 nd /3 rd Yrs)
Venue: HG23
Time: 2.30 pm – 3.30 pm
This interactive demonstration show explores the importance of energy in our lives through a quiz for all of the audience.
