28 September 2010

DCU Sport is delighted to announce that DCU won Sports centre of the year for a second year in a row!

The award comes from the Excellence Ireland Quality Association, a body which validates organisations practicing high standards of quality and hygiene. There are over 500 Sports and leisure facilities in the country that can apply for this certification. Facilities undergo an independent audit based on four criteria – Leadership and Commitment, Approach, Performance and Review, and Structure and Services. Facilities are then awarded a level 3, 4 or 5 depending on their score. This year DCU Sport increased their score by 8% to 70.2%, a level 4 award.

Independent certification ensures that DCU Sport is an industry leader in providing only top class facilities.

DCU Sport held off stiff competition from many sports and leisure facilities throughout the country, including the National Aquatics Centre, to retain the title first won last year.

CEO of DCU Sport, Ken Robinson, said about the win, “Receiving this award for the 2nd year in a row is recognition of the tremendous work and commitment of the team here in DCU Sport. It is also just reward for the investment made by DCU in developing sport over the past 10 years.”

The award was presented at a gala dinner in the Burlington hotel on Friday night.
