2011 ITLG Silicon Valley Comes to Ireland

DCU recently welcomed a delegation of Irish American Technology Leaders and Investors from Silicon Valley, California. The group met with 40 selected Irish technology companies in a series of private investor workshops at Invent, the University's Innovation & Enterprise Centre. Ten of these companies will be chosen to be showcased at the Annual ITLG - Irish Times Innovation Awards eventat Stanford University to be held in Spring 2012.
Following this the ITLG Group judged the ITLG University Challenge final where three companies competed to receive funding of up to €100,000. The overall prize was awarded to Infiniled which is headed up by CEO Joe O'Keefe. A spinout from Tyndell National Institute Cork,InfiniLED presented a new generation of LED technology, termed the MicroLED. The technology has a number of novel performance parameters which make it a superior illumination choice for a many applications, and an enabler for a whole other range of applications.
Speaking at the event Richard Stokes CEO of Invent said "DCU and Invent were delighted to host this event which allowed the best of Irish technology companies to be showcased to an experienced group of technology leaders who have significant funds to invest which will allow for the rapid growth of young indigenous high tech Irish start ups with innovative ideas. Leveraging investment such as this will assist these companies to make a significant contribution in the return to economic growth of this country."
The finalists of this competition were drawn from all 3rd level institutions on the Island of Ireland. Each institution nominated one company that is aiming to commercialise a technology with worldwide potential across a broad range of sectors.
