DCU "spin-in" wins Mallin Award
Friday 16 December

A DCU joint venture company developing ground breaking technology for manufacturing at the frontiers of miniaturisation has won the €65,000 Mallin Award for 2005.
Lexas Research is developing tools for monitoring and controlling nanoscale surface modification processes for the semiconductor manufacturing industry.
This technology makes manufacturing possible below 65 nanometer - the current Holy Grail in the semiconductor industry.
Lexas Research is a joint venture between Stephen Daniels, director of DCU’s National Centre for Plasma Science and Technologyand Lexas IT, a successful Irish company whose core business is servicing semiconductor processing equipment for major European wafer manufacturers.
The joint venture is the first DCU “spin-in”. This is a new model to establish commercial links between innovative SME’s and world-class researchers on the DCU campus, supported by financial aid from Enterprise Ireland.
The Mallin Award was started by DCU graduate Liavan Mallin to encourage, reward and support DCU staff, graduates and others who set up new businesses.
The 2005 Award was presented to Lexus Research by Stephen Brenninkmeijer, a member of the distinguished and well known family who own C&A.
