DCU Sports Scholarship student makes Canoe history
2 June 2010

Jenny Egan, 3rd year Athletic Therapy & Training, made history at the Senior Sprint Canoe World Cup 2 in Hungary on 29th May 2010 when she became the first Irish female sprint canoeist to medal at this level.
A total of 19 competitors were on the start line for the 5km event. Four athletes broke away in the leading group on the first lap - Renata Csay of Hungary, Debora Niche of Germany, Asumi Ohmura of Japan and Egan – and with the Japanese athlete falling off the pace on the 2nd lap, the final 3km would decide the podium finishes.
With just over a lap to go Csay broke away from Egan and Niche to claim gold, with the DCU student only six seconds behind to claim silver position.
Egan commented after the race that "I am delighted to win a medal at this major competition".
