Staff and students were today invited to view a poster exhibition by final year Business Studies and European Business students as part of the ‘New Enterprise and Development’ module.
Pictured above are Magalie Racine, Charlotte Drago and Dorothea Sterz from European Business, who presented a business idea that aims to provide micro-finance for students and entrepreneurs in developing countries.
Dr Sarah Ingle, lecturer in Enterprise and Entrepreneurship, DCU, said. “I think it is very encouraging for the future to see final year students showing concern for others in developing countries, and consequently designing a business to help students and entrepreneurs in under-resourced regions. This particular project by Magalie, Charlotte and Dorothea certainly captures the spirit of social entrepreneurship, and has the potential to have a very significant impact on those who need help in order to help themselves.”
Dorothea Sterz said “Our team wanted to find a way to solve the problems in financial and global markets by creating transparency and offering an alternative business opportunity.”
The plan is to build up a virtual exchange network of micro-finance, managing small amounts of funding from university students and alumni in developed nations. The funding obtained would then be used to finance students and entrepreneurs in developing nations and regions to start-up new enterprises and social projects.
