A Luncheon to Launch the Arts Bursary Programme 2011

Yesterday, staff and students gathered in the Space (the Helix) and joined the Office of Student Life for lunch to launch the Arts Bursary Programme 2011. Several students of DCU took to the stage, in an intimate setting and showcased their artistic talents in dance, drama and theatre. Senator Marie Louise O'Donnell delivered the key note speech addressing the importance of human energy, imagination and artistic value in today's information-laden world. Ed Leamy, Student Union President also spoke at the event. He addressed the true meaning of illumination and how this programme can do just that for the students of DCU.
The aim of the event was to create awareness about the Arts Bursary Programme 2011. Kindly sponsored by the Office of Student Life and the Education & Trust, this is a unique initiative where students can apply for funding to go towards their artistic develpoments. So, be it drama, dance, graphic art, fashion, music, photography, this programme is designed to celebrate artistic excellence in DCU and illuminate you.
What is the Arts Bursary Programme?
The Arts Bursary Programme is where as a student of DCU you can apply for funding to put towards anything from your guitar lessons, voice coaching, fashion, musical theatre, dance etc.
The aim of the Arts Bursary is to promote excellence in cultural activities at Dublin City University through the award of bursaries to selected students.The awards will be given to assist or encourage those students who represent DCU with distinction at national and international level in a performance, or produce work considered as being the equivalent.
The Arts Bursary will help individuals who aspire towards high levels of achievements and encourage present and future students to identify Dublin City University as an institution promoting excellence in academic and cultural activities.
Students can download application forms from www.dcu.ie/studentlife/arts_bursary/arts_procedure.shtml or just call up to your Student Engagement Officer in the Students Union. The application deadline is Thursday, 12 January. Interviews are scheduled to take place in Week 1 & 2 of Semester 2. As the application form does not allow a lot of room for text students are encouraged to submit a word document to back up the application.
